Fuel Flow Totalizer?

Fuel Flow Totalizer?

I am installing tip tanks on the PA-24-250 this October. I have been musing about a flow meter and/or totalizer. Would you recommend just a flow indication, or a totalizer, or one of the more complex units? Any suggestions?

William,

For decades we have used the Shadin fuel flow which also tracks fuel consumed and if hooked to a GPS, gives you gallons to destination. With the Osborne STC, it can replace the fuel flow gauge that came with the Comanche. http://www.shadin.com/products/fuel-flo ... /digiflo-l Some folks have chosen to leave the Piper Fuel flow gauge as a backup.

Even with the Shadin, if the flight is long enough to require a tank change, I still use a paper log for how much has been burned out of each tank and what remains in each tank.

I would certainly go with the totalizer. I too have a Shadin and it is accurate within 1%. I feel much better taking it down to my personal landing minimum of one hour at cruise, when I know I have an accurate total of fuel on board.
