Changing fuel selectors during taxi, how long before switch

Since these posts I always start up, taxi, run up and depart always on the main tanks, once I'm at cruise altitude I switch to aux, preparing for an engine out.

I feel safer

Am not sure.
You run your engine(s) at high power during checks, than taxi to the hold, set up the aircraft for t/o and line up, only then you to full power. But that time you have used enough fuel to know if you have a problem or not. If the taxi is a long one you can change tanks during the taxi.

I guess that this pne is like "which oil is best".
