here's an update on the saga of the mystery oil seal:

the RayJay parts list identifies the seal as a 24009 - which stumped me, since this part number didn't seem to exist anywhere. none of the references nor Google seemed to help. the closest item by Garlock was out of production and required an order to cover a production lot.
however while browsing through the Timken oil seal catalog, i spotted a 240009 (3 0's vs 2 0's) with the same dimensions! as it turns out this part is much more common and fits the housing like a glove. it also used to be installed on Hudson atutomobile transmissions in the 50's. it is also carried by Motion Industries in stock.

thus i ordered the part and installed it this morning. we're waiting for the LO IFR stuff to lift to do a run-up and do a test flight.
