Cabin air/ heat and ventilation.

Hi all,
I'm am getting heat from the fresh air vents while enroute. Has anyone experienced this and if so what's a good fix? Also, how much air should be coming from the overhead vents? I have tried to replace them (epic fail) which resulted in not being able to stop the air in the winter. (Wife didn't seem to like that much) since then I had them completely disconnected. Has anyone modified the overhead vent system? Lastly, can the heater air valve (the one opened and closed by the switch) be reconditioned? I don't they are completely sealing closed.
