AD 70-22-02 Fuel Selector Valve

AD 70-22-02 Fuel Selector Valve

Postby MITCH WILLIAMS » Mon May 18, 2015 1:47 am

I'm coming up on my first annual of my Twin Comanche (#1518) and I did an FAA AD search of the airframe. One of the ADS I came up with is 70-22-02. I have lots of good records and complete logs and the compliance sheets don't show that AD nor does it show up on the AD list in the tips section of this website or the AD list of the other Comanche websites. The AD does not show an issue date but it does show an effective date of 8/4/1970. Here is the link:
It seems to be still current. Am I missing something?

Your AD list should have it listed and then noted as either complied with or not applicable. It's not in your AD list at all? If not, then you need to determine whether the affected part is installed and document appropriately.

Well......yeah. I was just wondering if everyone else with Twin Comanches has seen and complied with that AD. Seems strange to me that it isn't on any of my previous compliance lists and it's not on the list in the "Tips" section of the ICS, Webco, etc.

I know what to do with it. Just wondering how it got missed since 1970 on an airplane that has otherwise meticulous records. Is it in your compliance records? It seems to affect all of the fuel valves made prior to 1970, which should be most of them.

I'll check my T-Data log tomorrow when I get into the office to see if that one is listed. This is the current list of recurring ADs I'm tracking on our '65 PA-30.

I found that it had been overlooked on my airplane too. If you post a picture of the top of your fuel selector, I can tell you whether you have the kit installed. I think I have a spare kit as I ended up with two when looking to find them for my airplane.

I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it up. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been done so I'm going to need that kit.

Well what do you know. T Data missed it as well. It's listed as an appliance instead of under the airframe list of applicable ADs. I'll be taking a look at ours as well.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Tim

EDIT: Dug out the box of all old aircraft records last night and found this had been previously complied with. Whew.

Got my kit from Webco today. Airplane goes to annual next week. It's amazing how something can slip for 40 years.
