Any recommendations for an EGT/CHT gauge?

Still sorting out the bugs on our newly purchased PA-39. On my squawk list, I have an INOP egt/cht unit. It was made by KS avionics and is the tetra II model. Anyone have any experience with these (maybe I can make this one work again)? Is there a replacement out there that has been good to any of you twin drivers? I'd like to be able to lean the engines out to good fuel economy but I don't want to run it too hot and burn up cylinders. Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.

You need an engine monitor that monitors all cylinders. JPI, EI, and Insight are probably the two biggest makers of then. They run a few AMU's, but you will be that gack in fuel and maintenance in a half dozen years or so. I have an Insight GEM 1200.

I have the Insight G4 in 2 planes. Works great and is easily readable. Customer service has been very good.

Yes, I have an Insight G4 Twin in my Turbo-Aztec. That gives me 14 vertical columns, including TIT, in addition to numeric display of RPM, Buss Voltage, Fuel Flow, MP, OAT and Oil Pressure. All are easily readable. One click on the page button allow a view of only one engine. I use this when doing fine leaning or trouble shooting.

I also fly a Twin Comanche with the G4 Twin installed. with only 8 bars it is quite readable.

IMHO this is the best of the instrument hole monitors, for a lot less $$ that the glass panel types.

Thanks Jim. The G4 is high on my list of options. I have an Insight Strikefinder and like the product and Insight looks like a good manufacturer. On other forums I'd read complaints about their use of blade / circuit board style connectors on the back if the unit vs RS232 style with pins. I assume you've had no reliability issues? Do you find all the features like "vibration analysis" and "valve analysis" actually work?

No problems at all The CHT and EGT come on pre-made harnesses that use the blade pins. All the other functions plug into a standard 37 pin connector.
