Fuel Servo repair after bad fuel in system

Fuel Servo repair after bad fuel in system

Postby Steven Brewer » Thu May 23, 2013 7:38 pm

I have a PA-30, IO320, and lost my left engine inflight due to contaminated fuel (water and rust). Still not sure where the sludge came from (pump, internal to my airplane, or other??) but, cleaned it all out of fuel main tank, selector, filters, injectors, etc. After putting together, engine run up was irratic. Couldn't get above 1200 RPM at first (stalled when advanced throttle), then cycled mixture several times, and the engine would eventually get up to 2500 RPM. But cycled mixture more and engine would stall out until idle power setting and stay at 800-1200 RPM. Was burning very lean, so advanced fuel servo by 17 and would give me 2500 RPM, but idle was then very rough.

We think it is a fuel servo clogging problem. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Can anyone recommend a good repair station for the fuel servo or doesn't it need overhaul (suggested shops??)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Try mikes aircraft fuel metering in tulsa ok, 918-838-6217. They will IRAN (inspect and repair as necessary) the fuel servo, bench test, and set the correct fuel flow. I was very happy with the work and cost. bernie

I use D&G Supply for any repair or overhaul. (269) 684-5406 I just had to send my fuel servo in for tuning. They only charged $85. Cleaned it out and calibrated. Russ (owner) has helped me troubleshoot a number of goofy injection related issues in the past as well.
