Main landing gear strut

Main landing gear strut

Postby Alejandro Cantarini » Fri Apr 12, 2013 3:13 am

Hi yall, looking to get some advice, my left strut is going flat over 3 weeks period, lower valve and seal replaced 3 weeks ago, my AP recommend rebuild but does not guarantee the work if strut don't hold after being rebuild. Now what to do?
try to find a used in serviceable condition strut or play the lottery rebuilding my one or last case find some other AP to do the job? This is my third trip to the AP to resolve this issue and getting pretty tired of it.

How close are you to Webco? They rebuilt my struts 4 years ago and still holding. The good thing about them is if you
need anything more than just the seals they will in most cases have the parts. Are they leaking fluid or nitrogen? Could be a shrader valve if you are not losing
fluid. If its fluid you might have to have the struts rechromed if the seals are not lasting.

Good luck,

Then before going out to Webco, recharge the strut and do the soap test in and around the shrader valve. If its just a shrader valve your mechanic can replace it
in a few minutes with the airplane on jacks.
Here is the part number from Spruce. Not 100% sure this is the exact part number you will have to call them to be sure.

Personally, I would be looking to find another AP.
There are lots of aircraft around with struts that stay up.
If your AP cannot dismantle the strut, examine the tube etc. replace
any suspect parts and rebuild the strut and then not guarantee his work
for even say 3 months, then what use is he?
4 years ago my u/c was totally rebuilt following the importation of my 260
into Australia from the US, and have had no issues to date.
Cheers,
Ojars

Just order the rebuild kit from Webco, hopefully this would do the trick.
