Lance/Saratoga seat installation sample 337

Lance/Saratoga seat installation sample 337

Postby Wayne Haristy » Sun Feb 10, 2013 9:06 pm

Several years ago I found a copy of an approved 337 for a Lance/Saratoga front and rear seat installation in a PA-24 250 or 180. The 337 included drawings of the rear seat parts installation (aluminum brackets, aluminum cross support under the front of the seats as well as the plywood support for the rear seats) and the parts listings. I have searched the forums and website several times recently for this 337 and cannot find it. I now regret not printing it out when I originally saw it. I am hoping that someone has a copy of this 337 and can post it for me and others to be able to access it.

Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me.

One person who did the rear seat install in his 250 was Dale Vandever who is no longer with us. Do not know who now owns his aircraft but they would most likely have the 337 in their records.

Good luck, Don

I've found and downloaded Dale's 337 for the front and rear seat conversion but the drawings of the rear seat assembly are not included in his 337. The 337 I had seen had this drawing and the install was exactly like the rear seats in my bird. The seats were installed I my Comanche before I bought it, but the 337 packet I requested from the FAA does not have a 337 recorded approving the installation. I am not sure if these drawing would be necessary or even help the approval process but I felt it couldn't hurt to include them.

Our FSDO is claiming to be much more friendly now with it's current staff than it has in the past. From other pilot's experiences, while going to them to have voluntary FAA inspections of their airplanes, this seems to be true. The inspectors are even asking the pilots to go back and tell other pilots that they are trying to change their image and that they will no longer be so hard to deal with. I am feeling that this may be my best time to have the seats approved.

Yes, I have Lance seats front and back. However, I did not follow the method that the shop which did Dale's installation. So, what i have would not be applicable.

Well I am not sure if my install is the same as Dale's or not. I don't remember whose plane the old 337 I had seen was for. All I know is that on mine, there is an aluminum bracket mounted to each side of the fuselage at the old attach points for the rear seats and then an aluminum 90 degree angle crossmember attaches to these two brackets and spans the fuselage for the front of the plywood floor to rest on. The rear of the plywood floor extends all the way back to the baggage compartment and is bolted at the old rear attach points. The seats have been cut and shortened, with the rear being shortened more than the front, then rewelded. The mounts that the seats slide into are attached to the plywood floor. The plywood has slots cut into it to allow the seat belts to pass through. I may have to take pics next time I have the rear floor panel out but that may not be until annual inspection in July.

Hi Wayne

Could you either post or send me the 337 for the lance seats? It would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking at replacing just the front seats so am not concerned about the rear seat installation.
