Removing the Trim Drum

Hello All,
We have a 61 250, and are very familiar with it's mechanical operations and assemblies. We would like to remove the trim drum and either have Denny or Webco repair the associated wear. That being said, I have read and re-read the manual. The trim cables are connected with turn buckles, I believe in the tail secion. What specifically I am trying to figure out is the easiest way to remove the cabling from the drum for repair. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, Removing seems to be fairly straightforward after talking to a comanche specific a&p. Its rewrapping the drum that I am completely lost on. Any suggestions?

If you send it to Denny or Webco it will be returned pre-wrapped with the cable safetied in place until you get it hooked up again. No need to rewind yourself. Ray B

I'm really interested in this as well.

Generally speaking, trim drums can be a pain to spool. First thing is to make yourself a clamp out of some wood (1x2 works) and a couple screws/nuts to clamp the two cables a couple feet foward of the drum to start. I'd must prefer to send it off if it's going to come pre-wound/greased with new cables. That sounds great. I haven't paid enough attention in the tail on the PA-30 yet to see where the turnbuckles are (haven't even picked up the bird yet). I know who Webco is, but who's Denny?

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm likely having the same problem you are- significant slop in the stab trim due to wear (noticed by holding the stab fixed and moving the anti-servo tab up/down by hand. Can others chime in on repair suggestions/instructions? Any idea on cost for sending them out? I'm assuming the set up in the single and twin are about the same.

I just got finished doing my drum. I got the drum from Denny and a cage from Matt at Comanche Gear. The process was fairly easy except rewinding the trim cable on the drum. I'm still trying to get it where the indicator agrees with the trim setting.
