Fuel injected turbo

I am looking at a 250 with io-540 and rajays dual turbos, my concern is fuel, can one fly this without useing the turbos
and lean it out for economy. and just use turbos when needed/would the fuel burn be the same as non-turbo if they are not used?

The short answer is yes. The manually controlled wastegate RayJay installation on Comanches allows you to fly around normally aspirated and only use the turbos when you want to.

The more complicated answer is that a turbo Comanche operating normally aspirated is not quite as efficient as a pure normally aspirated Comanche. The inlet system is not as efficient and if nothing else you are carrying the extra weight of the turbo and it's associated plumbing. How much less efficient? I've never done a side by side comparison on a single, maybe someone else can chime in.

One factor to consider is that that turbos, like most things, need to be excercised now and again. I've been told by a shop that I respect a lot that it's a good idea to use your turbos for at least five minutes or so on every flight. That heats them up and expands the metal seals, preventing oil leaks that can occur.

also If you buy a plane in Canada is there any trouble bringing it into the US?

Before you buy a Canadian registered airplane talk to your IA. The airplane will have to go through a very, very detailed inspection in order to be registered in the US.

Kota--- two major mistakes in my life...

1) my first marriage -- altho I have a wonderful daughter from that union
2) re-importing a 260B from Canada back to the US.

1) cost me more than I want to know
2) cost me about $14K and several months flying time.

2) I wouldn't do it again no matter what.
