JPI 930 with Garmin 530W

JPI 930 with Garmin 530W

Postby Mark Anderson » Thu Nov 03, 2011 2:31 pm

Here are some photos of my panel on a trip from Maryville ,MO to Huntsville, Al that I made last week. I was cruising at 13,000 feet and according to my GPS I had a TAS of 161 knots and ground speed of 190 knots whle getting about 17 MPG. I think that is a record for me! I am plugging in my IAS for CAS on the Garmin 530W. So I am thinking that the TAS figure the GPS is giving me is close ? I am very happy with the integration of these two units. The fuel management of the JPI 930 alone was worth the expense in my opinion. I think it is a great option for Comanche owners since the engine gauge clusters are not produced any more and the down time of having one repaired.

Certainly looks pretty and useful. What was the installation cost for the JPI?

Pat.

I had mine installed in conjunction with a whole new panel with 530,S TEC 30 AP,HSI, GPSS and the 930. I called the shop that did mine and asked what it would cost as a stand alone installation and they estimated $3,000. I think the actual unit now is about $5,000.My guess is it would just depend on your panel and placement on what kind of modifications you would need to make. Ron Collins Aviation Electronics in Henderson, KY did mine. Hope this helps.

Thanks

Mark

WOW - so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We won a fuel computer in 1979 and have been spoiled ever since - as soon as I heard about the 930, I got excited - if you come through DFW area, let me know, I'd love to see the installation.

We did the center stack in '07 so it will be hard to justify doing the right side so soon ... but I can drool, can't I?

Pat, thanks I will do it. My in laws live in Bedford. We usually meet them in Brownwood, TX (KBWD) as they have a vacation home there on a small ranch. The few times we have flown to Dallas we have gone to Grand Prairie (KGPM) or Executive (RBD). We are flying to KBWD for Thanksgiving. What airports/ FBO do you recommend in the Dallas area? Where are you based? Thanks, Mark

Mark,

We're at 52F, a lovely paved grass field - as in 3,200' of slightly rough runway with no instrument approaches but very close to KAFW and Texas Motor Speedway. NW of DFW. http://airnav.com/airport/52F

You've chosen the best location airports for access to Bedford unless you wanted to experience DFW landing fees. KLNC is nice with a small cafe and is home to Bob Cretney, ICS VP but is further east for you. Cheapest fuel in the area is a bit further west at KXBP.

Don't know yet whether we'll be traveling for T-holidays or not but would be great fun if it worked out to see the plane without impacting your time with family.

Pat,

Now I know where to land to go to my favorite store, Cabelas ! That would be fun to fly into 52F. My father in law works near KAFW. I will probably not be able to stop on the way to Brownwood. I usually file to CQY (Cedar Creek) intersection south east of Dallas to avoid the DFW airspace. Also once I get my wife, eight and four year old daughters and two Labrador retrievers in the plane I have to go the distance. It is hard to get them back in the plane again! But next time I am stopping over or passing through I'll let you know. I'd like to see your twin also!

Thanks

Mark,

Good Deal - Sounds fun.

Cabela's is just off the southeast end of AFW .. and 10 miles east is Bass Pro. Thanks to 22G, have had the opportunity to see Sydney, NE and the original Cabela's and the original Bass Pro in Springfield, MO.
