PA-39 Control yokes

PA-39 Control yokes

Postby md11flyer » Mon Jul 18, 2011 7:33 pm

Hello: Looking for a set of pa-39 control yokes. I have installed the newer Navajo yokes, but the yokes
are just a little to big for comfort during full control deflection. Funny thing is they were fine until I
redid my interior...That was when the foam in the old seat was wafer thin and the bottom of the legs were
feeling the pain from the metal seat frame!!

Well the comfort zone for sitting is well above 2 hours now.. but would like to have a more compact yoke...

If anybody knows the wereabouts of any let me know.

Thanks,

Gary

Gary,

My 39 has an vertical adjustment on the pilot's side - does yours? might help in the short term until you find the yokes you want. I'd look at salvage yards like www.asod.com

As the person who once was in a borrowed C177, couldn't get the radio to work, landed and stopped at an FBO because we knew nothing about radio masters and the mechanic solved that problem and charged us nothing - I figure I'd mention the adjustment - just in case. :-) I was younger then.

Lol, Pat.... no, unfortunately the seats are fixed in the fixed
welded vertical position.

Thanks Jim, but I think Matt normally refurbs Navajo yokes...Haven't seen any Pa-39 yokes on his web site...

He has had both. I realize that he often has the Navajos.... I was last at his place in April and he had several sets there then ... but I don't recall if they were all Navajos...

His website is good, but often doesn't reflect his inventory...

Call John Bailey at Knots2u. I think he advertises the newer Piper style. It won't hurt to look.

Gary--

I seem to recall that Hans was somehow involved with picking up a PA 39 with a friend that was going to be a parts airplane... you might drop him a note. Also, I think any 260C wreck could be a source too.

Gary,

Have you thought about the Cygnet Control Wheels. http://www.cygnet-aero.com/

Chris Szarek [chris@cygnet.aero] was extremely helpful and supplied specimum 337s.

Thanks, Terry., but I am in Canada and Transport Canada does not allow 337's. Any thing put onto an aircraft that is
not factory needs an STC.
Will keep looking for that illusive "original" piper rams horn yoke.

My involvement in getting a parts airplane did not work out. So, no parts available.

My plane has the B Baron yokes (same as Cygnet) installed using a machined adapter. Posted in the September 1991 Comanche Flyer.

Gary,

When the 2004 AOPA Twin Comanche was redone. It had the new Piper Style yokes installed. So It can be done. Knots2U has a copy of the same type listed on their web site, try them for more infomation. FWIW.

I hope this helps.
