Rick,
Look under "Current News" on the Comanche Flyer home page.

Thanks Jerry,

If this is a new and improoved horn that costs about the same as the original and will terminate any periodic replacement and/or inspection requirements, I would think every Comanche owner would jump at the chance to get this "fix".
Or do I have it wrong?

Rick,

My understanding is that while it appears that the Aussie horn will terminate the repetitive inspection criteria of the Piper service bulletin (because it is a different part), there is no guarantee that is would terminate any repetitive actions specified in the yet-to-be-issued AD, though it seems highly likely.

My IA explained to me that it is up to the FAA to determine if an alternate method of compliance is acceptable as a terminating action to an AD. In other words, the FAA may determine in any future AD, that the Aussie horn should be inspected the same as a Piper horn if sufficient evidience does not support otherwise.

To Register Interest

Postby kenhold » Tue Oct 19, 2010 3:30 pm

Scott,

to register your interest drop an e-mail to Graham Bunn - publicity@comancheflyer.com.au

He is keeping the list.

Sorry about the delay in replying - I don't check this forum very often.

Aussie Horn at Sun N Fun

Postby kenhold » Tue Mar 15, 2011 7:54 am

If anyone is interested, Roy Sneesby will be at the Comanche tent at Sun N Fun this year with an Aussie Horn. Roy assisted in the design of the replacement horn and performed the demonstration installation as part of the STC approval process.

He will be able to show you a horn, the install kit and answer any of the installation questions you may have.

After sun n fun, roy is driving back to Los Angeles so may be able to drop in elsewhere if there is enough interest.

Ken,

Do you know if the FAA has approved the STC for the horn yet?

Rick,

the STC process is still underway and the FAA have just completed the initial validation process as allowed under the mutual recognition treaty. In this they confirm that CASA has applied the correct certification basis, the required engineering has been done and the paperwork is in order. A small number of documentation questions were raised during the review and these are being addressed now. If our experience with the undercarriage trunnions is anything to go by, it moves pretty quickly from this point onwards.

regards

Ken.
