Exhaust tips

Exhaust tips

Postby Michael Whitty » Mon Oct 25, 2010 4:09 am

Hi everyone. New member here and new owner of Twin C. A 1970 PA-39 and like all of us, I'm finishing up what I can afford to make it "my own". I cant find any info or phone numbers on the Gulf Coast exhaust tips. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Hi Michael - welcome to Comanche ownership and the ICS Forum ... I might be biased since I fly a 39 - you just bought one sweet bird.

The stack extensions are on my Twin and have STC SA2648SC
the 1989 STC approval shows Gulfcoast Stacks po box 817 Foley, AL 26936 - however, they don't show in the FAA data bases anymore.

Perhaps someone else will chime in with more info.

Chad,

The exhaust stack extensions put the exhaust further away from the underwing surface And they point it more downward instead of straight back. It slows the wear on the underwing surfaces and a side benefit, keeps them cleaner.

I'd buy them again - unless I was still racing against a make and model handicap - they do stick out a bit.

Michael and Chad... it does take some effort but you can certainly make a better exhaust tip than Georgia was selling. The key is you want mandrel bent tubing... Also, there may be issues if your airplane has had the Knots-2-U Nacelle fairing kit installed

Mine had the K2U mod and the Gulf Coast stacks didn't fit... some have them and they fit fine... it is my belief that most do not.

I bought the Gulf Coast stacks... made some modifications and then re-did them a 2nd time... now they are perfect! Private email me if you want more details.
