What Causes Cyl's getting out of round??

Just replaced 2 cyl's. I was told they were out of round. I've put about 250 hours on the engine in the last 2 years I have owned it. Just wondering.

How many hrs were on it BEFORE you owned it? What was the statusof the cyl when installed, new, rebuilt, chromed, servicable honed, oversized, etc. Sounds to me as if the bore was oversized, and the associated piston was not, causing it to wear the top and bottom of the cyl more. Some of this does happen naturally on an engine properly built, but would certainly be worse if the piston was slopping around in the cyl.

Sorry for not getting back sooner........have been out of touch. Cylinders had about 750 hours when I got the airplane. I was always careful with shock cooling, always use the JPI. Anyway, there was blow-by the rings on 1 and 4. Frank at Chandler Aviation has a place here in PHX that took my cylinders one day and had them back in 2 days. Everything is running great, oil stays clean loooonger. 20 hours on this change and oil is still somewhat clear. Hope I just didn't just JINX myself.
