I am also tracking down the horn assembly p/n 22882-003 for my PA30 (s/n 30-825). My Piper supplier in Johannesburg tells me "minimum 4 to 6 weeks" but can't say where the delay is.

I've sent an email to Aviall, but yet to get a response (I do not have a customer number from them).

Does anyone know of a parts supplier that may have these assemblies in stock?

Failing that I am stuck with the 100 hour inspections until I get the new part - I do about 60 hours each month with this aircraft.

Bought a new horn and new tube months ago in antisipation of all this mess. Airplane is in annual at Webco as we speak. Will have a complete tail inspection and new horn/tube. 1000 hours of worry free flying. Not priceless, but a lot less painful not having to wait on parts. By the way it took two months from my initial order to get them delivered. As for someone elses question, you don't need to be an A/P to order from AVIALL or use there web page. Just call there 1-800 number.

New horn cost

Postby Robert » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:46 am

Does anyone know how much the new horn & torque tube costs (in the U.S.)? I tried to find out on Aviall, but when I tried to set up an account, all that happened is I got an E-mail saying "someone will contact you shortly...".

Is there still anything we can do to try to get a less onerous inspection interval in the A/D? Every 100 hours after the first 1000 seems a bit ghastly. My horn was replaced (with serviceable used) about 350 hours ago.

Guys, don't panic here. The Feds know its BS and are not going to publish an AD that looks anything like the current SB, and that is straight from the leads mouth. It was quite an informative session at the ICS tent at OSH yesterday! One of the big statements was "... if we (FAA) thought this was an immediate safety of flight issue, there would have already been an AD..." Standby, do not speculate, and do not panic. Much more info will be available in the future to make your decisions on. It is not good to jump to conclusions one way or the other before all the facts are known.
