Plastic, anyone

Just a reminder....to myself as I am usually the last to find out stuff....all you ICS folks know that the paper license is invalid 3-31-10, right?
As of 4-01-10 if all you have is a paper license you are no longer a certificated pilot to the FAA. You must request a plastic replacement license before that date.
Online dial up (you're gonna love this) www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airme ... rtificates (phew) to get started.
You can register online, if you don't already have an account, and pay by credit card.....$2 for each license.....so it is direct and easy.
Never before has the federal governmen made it so easy for us to pay them.
Ainn't life grand?

Hi All,

Just to add to Steen's comment, if the faa is currently using your SS# as your pilot id #, and you opt to change your id #, then you can get the new card for free. Federal law requires the FAA give you a new card for free in that situation and it is an option on the website.

Good luck, Don

Additionally, if you operate internationally, you are required to have proof that you have received the requisite english proficiency training required by ICAO, and that you can prove it. To solve this, the FAA now adds "English Proficient" to the back of your pilots certificate, because as you know, you cant get a US pilots certificate without being asked and tested in english if you can read, speak and understand english, to which all illegal immigrants know the answer is YES! Seriously, if you are planning to fly outside the boarders of the USA, this is now a requirement, and it comes standard with your new plastic certificate with your picture on it (if you look like one or both of the Wright Bros.).
