Hi Zach,

Interesting, looked at the parts manual(revised 3/69) and can't find a depiction of either an alternator or generator.

Went to the Airplane Flight Manual (Fuel Injection Models Only) that came with the a/c, signed 6/30/65 and last revised 1/6/66, and looked at the equipment list, page 7, sec.2 and it lists as the only option; "Alternator, 12V 70 amp. Delco-Remy No 1100660 or 1100717"

No mention of a generator what so ever.

Good luck, Don

PS I agree with regards the belt although had a friend use his at Johnson Creek, Idaho to good effect. Mine just gets replace every time the prop is off. On the seal I think if it ain't broke don't fix it as the big thing there is to get it glued properly on install. You'll be cleaning small drops of oil off the front of the cowl and the windscreen when it starts to go.

Don and Nate,
I stand corrected. I was mistakenly thinking Twincos. The PA-30 C was the first with factory alternators. In fact I looked it up and all PA-24-260/400 came std with a Delco-Remy 70 amp alternator system. This is referenced in both the Service Manual and the latest IPC. Sorry for the misinformation.

Hi Zach,

Further my comment above, this is from the PA24 service manual, p. 3A12:

"On the PA-24-180 and PA-24-250 models, a 35-ampere or 5O-ampere generator is installed.'
. . .

'On the PA-24-260 and PA-24-400 models, a 70-ampere alternator is installed."

Good luck, Don

Regardless of what the book says, I got the cowl off and the alternator off and it has no placard w/ model/serial numbers etc. Looks like it's off my '66 Ford Mustang. My mechanic is planning to order the one the book calls for, as far as the prop seal, he suggests waiting as it is not broke. The engine had a top overhaul just before I bought it so now it has about 50 hours. I'm guessing it was replaced at that time. Don't know that for sure though.

Thanks for all the help, any advice is always appreciated by a new comanche owner.

Nate
