ELT replacement

Hi all, I have a pointer 3000 and have to replace it with a 406 sat version. I am based in europe. Does anybody know which is the easiest and cheapest way to replace the pointer without new wiring

I didn't have a Pointer but a different one. I replaced it with the Kannad 406 sat version. The Kannad was smaller but was made to fit snugly on the old tray with strapping.
None of the wiring needed to be changed.
The new (whip) antenna replaced the old one at the same point.
If the dimensions are substantially different you may have to take the tray out and/or use strapping.

Andreas: My electronics shop says that one of the current 406 MH locator beacons manufacturer is coming out soon with a 406 MH unit that will be about half price compared to the current models. (Perhaps $500 to $600) I'm waiting for it. I forget the manufacturers name, but their product has letter identifiers ACK or something like that.

Since the regs require an on/off test switch for the tail mounted locator beacon, I'm planning to put appropriate wiring in place during my upcoming annual. Will save removing the floorboards a second time.

We paid 1200 euro including antenna installation.
We're going to do the remote switch wiring and installation ourselves (under supervision). It's a fiddly job but straightforward enough.
Where does it say in the regulations that you MUST have the switch installed? When configured in automatic mode it does not need a switch and complies with EASA as well as FAA specifications.
