Flight training in Florida

Flight training in Florida

Postby Effie Andree Wiltens » Sun Jan 18, 2009 2:22 pm

I am planning to come to Ormond Beach, Florida in the beginning of February to do some flight training.

Are there any ICS members nearby? Would it be possible to do some proficiency training on a single Comanche too?
Unfortunately, there are no CFF trainings planned, but would any ICS instructor be available? I'm open to suggestions, I might even have an aircraft to get me to where you are, if it is not too far.
Drop me a message on this board if you have any ideas.

Effie
I checked the list of CFF Comanche instructors. I think the the nearst to florida is Bill Harris who is based in Virginia.
Send him an email to bill@motioncontrol.org. His tel number is (00)-(1)540-731-4772.

I've just booked my flight: arrive Orlando next Thursday, fly out on Feb 2.
Now the next problem: how to rent a car for that period without a credit card...

Get a credit card....you will be hard pressed to secure lodging or hire a car without one! Cash only goes so far these days...everyone wants something they can leverage against you for security, and the credit card is the easiest tool for you to give them.

No chance getting one at this short notice.
I've had troubles getting one because I am a freelance IT consultant and my income fluctuates between nothing and pretty high, and that is something the banks don't like.

It looks as if I have to take my bicycle along with me for transport... which is a pain with the luggage and all, I'd much rather get a car.

Must be a lot harder to get one in Europe. They practically throw them at you here in the states!

Yes, and it takes a lot longer too.
And it has become harder still with the credit crisis.

Frankly, I don't need a credit card. Debit card would do me fine too -- but that is also difficult for some reason. I've been a freelancer for twelve years and have fluctuating income, but despite this I have been able to pay off debts early and never defaulted on anything, and save up enough money to buy a plane, and having a good chunk of money in my account, I still can't get a credit card. Go figure.

This is a big inconvenience now. The period of my stay is really too short to consider buying a secondhand car. How dumb of me not to think of this beforehand!
I am now trying to find someone whose car I might be able to borrow. Or else it would be bicycle for me, I'm afraid. But Orlando to Ormond Beach is a bit far with luggage on your back!
