Hi Tony:
Here is a compendium of advice I've received from various sources:
1. Any leaks, even pin holes, in the hoses will cause problems. Pressurizing the system with a shop vac and then spraying with soapy water while looking for bubbles is the accepted procedure.
2. Make sure that the soft round metal parts that the hoses attach to on the boxes are all still truly "round". One owner has told me he wraps those with a double layer of electrical tape then puts the hose over the tape to make sure there are no leaks around the clamps.
3. Pay close attention to the waste gates. Sometimes waste gates can bind up before they are fully closed.
4. Alternate Air Door and the flapper door seals are a problem area. You can try making your own seals out of silicon, but they have to be tight.
5. Blow out proof exhaust gaskets are recommended on the stacks.
6. Whenever you take the system apart you want to use all new gaskets, don't re-use an old one.
Little leaks make a bigger difference than you might think. The first time I had my system worked on they leak checked it, and the A&P said "we only found a couple of tiny leaks". I said humor me and seal them up, and the result was a 5" pick up.
Good luck,
Jay
