FLAP SETTING

FLAP SETTING

Postby Frank Brunot » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:24 pm

Some time back, I read an article that claims if the flaps are adjusted slightly UPWARD from their normal "UP" position, it will increase the performance of the airplane.

1) Does anyone know if this is in fact true?

2) If so, has anyone tried this on a PA30?

3) If so, how much performance increase was there, and what was the positive (UP) angle increased to.

Thanks.

Hi Frank,

Check out Hans Neubert's web site for some great info on speed increases. He has one of the fastest PA 30's around.

Frank,

Yes for ailerons, on a 39. Mom, Marion Jayne, Hall of Fame race pilot, did the timings - my guess is a kt or so. Unless you are racing I'd spend time hands-off perfect rigging or finding the best winds for each flight - just my .02
