I need help with sourcing a prop control cable for my 180. The cable became extremely stiff when cycling during the run up. In flight, it freed up some and operated almost normally. Did the Zack recommended lubricating treatment with little improvement. My mechanic says there’s physical damage inside the cable that’s causing the binding. I believe this to be the original cable. (50+ years old)
Tom Pentecost from SE Piper provided an OEM part number, (455-236), but the part I believe is NLA. He suggested WEBCO who in turn referred my mechanic to McFarlane. Seems as though they have 250 cables in stock but will have to make the 180 cable to-order. This option sounds expensive. I should have pricing in a few days.
In the meantime, can anyone provide possible alternatives? Preferred Airparts has used inventory under the Piper number but will not guarantee an exact fit.
Thank you.
