Does anyone know the latest regarding the Australian Stabilator Horn or another replacement. Is is going to be available?

I would like to know the same thing. I am hoping it will be an approved STC by the time my 100 hours is up.

My annual will start at the end of March or early April and I too would like to know if the Australian Horn can be replacement and NOT subject to the AD. How about the argument that the Australian Horn is a different part number and therefore it is not subject to the AD?

Can anyone post an email or give a contact name of who would have any info on the status of the Australian horn? As important as this is to our aircraft you would think this is something we would keep up with?

We do keep up with this. It is and has been in the hands of the FAA ATL ACO, the same folks that brought you the AD in the first place. When there is something to report, we will. Until then there is simply no news.

I recently e-mailed the FAA's Keith Noles (contact for the AD) and asked about status on the STC for Australian horn since my annual will be in September and would like to know if this is an option. This is his response:

I'm still working back and forth with the Australians on this project. We're making good progress. The STC holder stays rather busy and can go long periods before I hear back.

I'd like to think we'll have a final decision within the next few months. I cannot guarantee anything, but suspect it should be in plenty of time for you to make an informed decision ahead of your annual.

I plan to communicate the outcome through the Comanche Society, so keep your eyes and ears open there.

Thank you.

A quick pic to show the Australian part compared to the Piper one!
I have installed 2 of these so far and it really is not that difficult.
Hope you can get the STC through soon as is is a much stronger looking part?
By the way the original part was changed as a precaution,
Upon dis-assembly it was cracked in 2 places inside that were not visible from the outside!

Three questions about the Australian Horn - assuming it is ultimately STCed:
1) can anyone with horn AD experience provide pros and cons for the Australian horn?
2) is the any up to date information including lead time (I have the 1-2011 order form) on purchasing the horn either individually or as a group?
3) is anyone willing to loan or share the "installation kit"?
Any other thoughts are appreciated.
