Brake Line Clamp

Brake Line Clamp

Postby Jim Worley » Mon Mar 22, 2010 4:52 pm

Comanche Drivers,
2 Parts to this post. 1) Praise for the ICS website and the tips posted there as well as this forum. 2) A question hopefully someone can help me with.

I have a 61 250 that has the reversed main gear mod so the brakes are on the inside. During that mod or the last time the brake lines were replaced the LH brake line was routed incorrectly. It was bent forward, opposite the torque link. As a new owner, it was something I hadn't even noticed till my A/P pointed it out.

1) I live in a very warm climate. I made a trip a month ago to a much colder one. On my return, shazamm! no "up and locked" light and popped gear motor CB. Everything else worked as advertised. I scoured tips and the forum and someone several years ago had a similar problem in a cold climate where the brake line was very stiff, it wouldn't bend to allow the gear to come up comletely as it was between the gear, the door and the front of the wheel well. Sure enough, warm climate everything was back to normal. Great Job ICS! I was already filling out my form for Matt to get new wirining and switches (which will be done soon anyway). But you got me back in the air!

2) I rerouted the brake line yesterday to make it match the Service manual and the pictures from Matt Kurkle's website. One problem, Matt's pics show a clamp attached to the torque link. Neither of my MLG have a hole in the torque link where a clamp could be attached. Drilling and tapping into the Torque link seems like a bad idea to me.
-- Is it a year model difference that some have this hole and some don't ?
-- Will it cause any problems if I don't have a clamp installed on the torque link?

Matt's pics are attached for reference.

The clamp on Matts torque link is fitted on the bolt head side of the upper link mounting bolt. No these do not exist on most comanches, however they do provide a very good way to keep the line under control and are an easy thing to add.

Brake Line Clamp

Postby Matt Kurke » Thu Apr 22, 2010 1:57 pm

Hi Chris:

The assembly drawings can be valuable for details such as addressed here; however since they are no longer affordable I have no plans to expand my "library".

I have attached one appropriate reference.

Matt

Matt,

Those assembly drawings would be a perfect example of improved ICS type support and an execellent addition to a "Wikipedia" type technical database.

p.s. How is the paint job proceeding?
