Maximum life on hoses

Maximum life on hoses

Postby Joseph Munoz » Sat Nov 03, 2012 10:52 pm

What is the maximum legal time in service for fuel, oil and brake hoses. I have heard 10 years. Aside form the obvious leaking, cracking indications.

Depending on use, rubber hoses are good for 5-10 years (max), and teflon hoses are good for 10-15 years easily. If you replace, spend the extra money and get firesleeved teflon hoses.

Thanks Zach. They ended up replacing all the hoses, fuel, brake lines and oil. The previous owner didnt do such a great job on the maintenance. Im learning a lot as we go along this being my first plane and all.

One thing I just learned is to look hard at the vacuum hoses both forward and inside the fire wall. Don't know yet but hose deterioration may have been the cause of a double vacuum pump failure on the twin after only 160 hours on new pumps which historically have gone to engine TBO on our aircraft - either that or contamination during install or both.

We have now replaced every 'rubber' hose from the vacuum pumps to each of the instruments. We had already done the firewall forward hoses 2 years ago.
