Fuel Selector Valve Repair

Fuel Selector Valve Repair

Postby Patrick DeStefano » Fri Oct 27, 2017 2:52 pm

Just sold my Warrior and got a Comanche 180.
Needing some TLC.
FIRST on the list is the fuel selector valve.
Service manual casually mentions removing valve for service.
I don't see any shut offs in the parts manual.
Is this practical without draining the tanks?

Get a stopper of the correct size (about 3/8" tapering up to 3/4") and remove the valve. When you pull the valve out fuel will start to flow into the valve area. Use the stopper to block it while you use fuel-proof grease to lube it.

Patrick,

I just changed my selector valve in myb 250. I personally think it's best to de-fuel.
The job is extremely simple.

I use AN806-4d or -5d fittings as appropriate to plug my lines easily. A pan underneath easily catches the spilled fuel which I use for cleaning purposes later.

I wound up draining everything.
Not too bad a job - mostly a hassle dealing with the interior.
At first thought I had bad lube, it was so pastey, but valve worked slick once reassembled and fuel refilled.

Now to get those new wires run for the nav/strobe wingtip lights.........
