Landing Gear Light

Postby Rich Hart » Thu Nov 09, 2017 12:35 pm

PA 24 250. My landing gear light turns off when I turn on my nav lights. Any thoughts would be helpful

Rich,
I believe that the gear lights may actually still be on, but significantly dimmed. This is by design and normal. If the cabin isn't very dark the gear lights will appear to be off, but aren't.
Hope this helps.

Matt Kurke of comanchegear.com has a light mod available IIRC.

Thanks. I know about the dimming feature, however the landing gear light is indeed completely off.

Rich,
I assume that the nav-light switch has an internal resistor which automatically dims the gear lights, when turned on. If that's so, then the resistor may be fried or otherwise disconnected/broken. This should be easily testable with a multimeter. Since the FAA considers resistors "standard parts" your A&P should (I believe) be allowed to repair the switch by replacing or resoldering the defective resistor/connection.
