Jepp Skybound Adapter for GX-55

Jepp Skybound Adapter for GX-55

Postby Austin Anderson » Tue Jun 27, 2017 7:33 am

Hi all,

Looking to update the GPS database in my "new" '66 260B, N915HP, before I get into a 10 day instrument rating course next month. Having a hard time finding the programmer for the PCMCIA card in the GX55. Called Jeppesen today and they don't have them any more! Does anyone have an old one lying around, or know a guy who does? Would also be interested in borrowing locally in the So Cal area.

Best

Try 1-800-525-6726 extension 3995. I believe Julie is the gal. I think it's a division of Garmin or Garmin AT if I recall that does the database updates for the GX55. I orderan update once a year and it's been since Oct 2016 that I last ordered using this info. So hopefully they are still there. I've been using this phone number for a decade or more and Julie is always very helpful and keeps promising they have no plans to discontinue supporting the updates for this unit. It's not cheap though, about $175 maybe a little more for a one time update.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

I was able to find one of the 3-in-1 adapters buried on Barnstormers under a different name. I found it after searching for the part number - DSKYUS41.

It worked great after installing Windows 10 on my Mac with Boot Camp, and paying Jeppesen $150 for a one time update.

After sweating it out that I wouldn't be able to use the GPS "legally" for the training and checkride - I'm happy to help out anyone who needs in the future.
