Tip tanks

Tip tanks

Postby Ben Faulkner » Tue Aug 09, 2016 8:28 pm

I have a PA24-180 on the English register and would like to add Osborne tip tanks. I have spoken to the CAA and they will not accept the STC unless I can find someone in Europe who has had permission to install them. Their is approval here for the 250 & 260 but not the 180. Can anyone help?

Hi Ben,

Sorry I can't help you with this, but I have to ask why you would want to install tips on a 180?

Mike - can't speak for Ben - I say more fuel is the best speed mod as you need fewer stops. Depends on normal flight and how much useful load is available to do what you need to fly.

Are you sure there is no approval for the 180? Many people do not realize that there is no such thing as a PA24-180, and they in turn believe that nothing is approved for a 180. The official designation is PA-24. If it is approved for PA-24 then that is the 180 approval. I don't know the EASA stuff very well, but it might be worth a look.
