Autopilot Altimatic IIIb pin-compatible to Altimatic IIIc

Autopilot Altimatic IIIb pin-compatible to Altimatic IIIc

Postby Wolff Ehrhardt » Thu Aug 04, 2016 9:17 am

Hello,

I have a Twinco Turbo (since one week) with the old Altimatic IIIb. The autopilot works, but not as I like. The Alt-Hold and Alt Preselect mode is not so smoth as I am used to. So I want to change to an Altimatic IIIc. Ok, it has no preselect Altitude anymore and I can live with it. But the Alt-Mode in the Altimatic IIIc (Also known as Century III) is exactly what I expect from an "Alt-Hold". Now my question, are both autopilots pin-compatible, so that I just have to buy an Altimatic IIIc and remove the old Altimatic IIIb and plug in the Altimatic IIIC? I do know, that there is paperwork, but that is second guess.

Many thanks in advance.

Wolff,

Congratulations in finding

I did exactly that conversion in my 1969 PA-30. You have my email. I can tell you how I did it, the parts you need, etc.
