ArticAir Ice Chest Cooler

ArticAir Ice Chest Cooler

Postby Zaven Ghanimian » Thu Mar 31, 2016 12:28 am

I want to buy an ArcticAir Ice cheat style cooler.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the right size one for a 260b or maybe have used one for sale?

I bought one years ago for a different model airplane with a 24 volt electrical system. I hardly used it because though they worked wonderfully as advertised, they are cumbersome to load up with ice and water and get lifted onto the airplane. I would sell mine but it won't help a Comanche driver with 12 volt electrical systems. My suggestion would be to get the largest one you care to lift on to the airplane because they blow through ice quickly. If it's hot out, you can never have enough cold air and if by some chance you actually do, you can turn the unit to a low setting or off.

I built mine, less than 80 or so in parts
I'll post some pics later
Works great in a 250
With block ice it will last two hours. Air is cooled to about 54 coming out the cooler.
With free cubed ice from the fbo 45 min to a hour max
Total pain in the butt to put in and take out,and uses most of the back seat
But it sure beats sweating

Zaven,

I may have misunderstood your post but it kinda sounded like you might be interested in buying my 24VOLT unit for $150. Here are pictures of the unit. I looked at Arctic's website and they have clearly made the units look nicer compared to their early models which mine is. Mine looks more like Andrew's home made one (which it appears he did a nice job on). I believe I bought this unit in 2007 after a particularly warm Oshkosh flight that summer and as I mentioned in my previous post, it did not get used much. I would guess less than 20 hours total time and it has just been sitting in my closet at home.

If you're interested, send me an email at edasmus3 at aol dot com and we can work out the details. I would take the $150 if I understood correctly plus you pay shipping. Good Luck!

Ed

Package includes Arctic Air cooler (Rubbermaid to be exact) with pump and radiator, connecting chords with pump and fan switches, two ducts plus two tiny cardboard shims (which hold the ducts snugly in place), drain hose, and instruction sheets.

Again, THIS UNIT IS 24 VOLTS AND WILL NOT WORK TO MY UNDERSTANDING IN A COMANCHE WITH IT'S 12 VOLT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

Thanks,

Ed
