Garmin GNS-430 installation PA30

Good morning,

Has anybody information on installation of a GNS-430 on a PA-30?

My airplane got it installed apparantly in 2004 but there are no documents provided for the installation, just the avionics shop statement in the aircraft logbook.
My question is - is an STC needed for this kind of installation?
If not in the US, does anybody have any knowledge about the EASA stance towards this kind of installation (minor?)
