Alternator CB (large toggle switch)

Alternator CB (large toggle switch)

Postby IO720 » Fri Sep 18, 2015 4:32 am

I've posted this on the other forum as well.

I was under the instrument panel today chasing down a small electrical problem. Upon the next start up, I noticed the ammeter wasn't showing a charge. I checked the circuit breaker...sure enough...it was in the off position.

My question...when these large circuit breakers trip, does the lever swing all the way to the off position? Or, is it like a household circuit breaker, where the lever only moves a small amount?

I'm trying to figure out if I had accidently bumped the switch, turning it off, or if the breaker did, indeed, "pop".

Thanks!

Well, I can now verify that the switch's lever does, indeed, travel all the way to the off position when tripped. Turns out that my alternator had failed.

I learned something today.

Thanks for sharing. There is always something to learn.

P.S. After seeing your ID, thought I should start posting as IO640 for the total of the Twin's engines ... although they are IO and LIO so maybe it is IOzero becasue they cancel each other out :-) ... a little Sunday morning humor.
