APRS

Postby Joshua Gill » Fri May 08, 2015 6:22 pm

Good morning, ICS,

First time poster here, new member, and a somewhat new owner of N232YP, a PA-24-250. I am interested in figuring out a 2m antenna solution for my Comanche so that I can get into APRS tracking. I did a little searching and found a post from many years ago:

I'm curious if anyone else has done something similar as DaveG24 (It seems he's no longer a member on the forms). What's the legality of this? I know there's an advisory circular (43.13-2B) on antenna installation and I'm not sure this through BNC suggestion complies with that.

Best,
Josh

Suggest you go to www.vansairforce.com and look at the APRS tracking forum. Lots of information there and practical advice.

One of the latest posts concerned a portable unit usable in a certified aircraft.

Just use a vhf com antenna. Certified and close enough freq. Log it as handheld external antenna.

Just in case anyone's interested, I purchased the AP510 and it seems to perform pretty well in the window. It's a little difficult to configure as the firmware must be upgraded before the configuration app will work properly and there are many versions of the firmware out there.

I took it for a quick test flight yesterday:
