Rosen Visor PA24-250

Anyone install the Rosen visors in a PA24 that didn't have factory installed visors already?

I talked to Rosen and they said their STC is to replace an existing factory installed visor. They told me there should be some holes already in my airframe but I do not see any existing holes in which to mount a visor. Not sure if visors came standard with the PA24 or not (1959 vintage). I suspect not.

At some point in time the windshield was replaced with the single piece windshield. Not sure if that eliminated any existing visors or the holes I am looking for.

So far I fly west in the morning and east at night but that may not last forever.

Any other options for a visor? Also is the 3 axis visor worth the added cost?

Hi Richard,

Not sure about the Rosen visors but another option are the visors from Dr DeGroff. He advertises in the Flyer. I have a set and they are fantastic. Much cheaper and they use the existing visor mounts. Very simple.

My 1960 24-240 came with visors. Go to the ICS website and check the parts manual. The screw holes for the mounts are probably buried under the headliner.

As far as I know, all came with sun visors.

A couple comments after reading this thread. The guy looking for the visor mounting holes had a good question, did converting the old two piece windshield to a one piece do away with the original mounting holes?? A few years ago I purchased a set of sun visors from Dr. Degroff to replace the old pleather visors that I had. AWESOME visors but only one shortfall, only moved in one axis. Also, when mounting them I used the same holes that the old visors were using which were probably not mounted correctly when I purchased this fixer-upper plane.

As much as I loved Dr. Degroff's visors (and they were an enormous improvement) I craved a visor that I could rotate to the side window, hence my recent purchase of the Rosen 3 axis system. Now I'm interested in the question, 'are there original mounting holes hidden under my headliner that I'm not aware of?'.

If anyone has installed the Rosen system, I would very much like to see a picture of your installation. The Resen visors were purchased used so all I have are the installation instructions I could find on the internet.

RAM now has a set of visors they are coming out with that use their suction cup mount.

Attached is a picture of the Rosen installation in my 1964 bird. There were a drop in replacement and I really like the way they can be positioned at whatever angle needed in the side window. My wife uses it ALOT.

Note the two mounting bolts with recessed hex heads requiring an Allen wrench.

Thanks Pat! I found my hidden mounting nut plates under the upholstery. That makes the job a ton easier. Whoever mounted the visors I had when I purchased the plane just stuck sheet metal screws in a convenient place.
