Postby Ray Ruiz » Mon Jul 28, 2014 10:53 pm

Hello all. I am looking for an experienced comanche mechanic to perform a prebuy inspection of a 1964 comanche 260 in the tennessee area. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks!

hi Ray,

Welcome to almost Comanche ownership.

Hopefully someone will post here that knows more folks in TN, if not - Cliff of Heritage Aero KRFD would do an excellent job. http://www.heritageaero.com/ He is about to speak at the ICS tent at OSH

Don't know how often you buy and sell an airplane, do know based on postings here that paying for an experienced Comanche mechanic that you are asking for is worth the upfront $ - bet you already knew that.

Ray,

If you just need the pre-purchase inspection, I suggest Paul New in Jackson, Tennessee. If you need pilot services and training all rolled into one, then I can help. As with any that I have to travel for, I like to get copies of the logs beforehand as I can help rule out airplanes just based on 2-3 hours with the logbooks. If the plane passes logbook muster and I can get some good pictures, they usually a deal can be done after the physical inspection. It generally doesn't make sense for me to travel when there are closer mechanics, if that is all you need. I cover all the bases which can be helpful if the buyer needs to get the plane back home and needs a certain about of time and training for FAA and/or insurance purposes.

Ray - FYI - if you need flying help - we've flown with Kristin in her Twin and she has been in our Twin to help with a couple of issues. We recommend her without reservation.

If you are interested after you look at it, I recommend taking snapshots of all airframe log, the engine log back to the last overhaul, plus any paperwork associated with the overhaul, and the prop log back to the last overhaul of it. An experienced aircraft buyer & A&P can tell you a lot from there. Attached is a checklist of photos that I recommend clients take when they scope out an airplane that they might be interested in.

Ray, I concur with Kristin. Paul's company is highly recommended. Tennesse Aircraft Services is the name of his company in Jackson,Tn(KMKL). I haven't actually done business with them but I've talked to Paul on the phone several times about prebuy's on 182's as he is one of the top guru's in that area. Then I found out he is also highly knowledgeable about Comanches and even owns one. The best part is he will let you get involved in the prebuy or annual as much as you want. Great way to learn and he'll adjust his price according to how much labor hours you put in. Hope this gets to you in time to be of some help. Good luck!
