Wanted deiced turbo pa 30

hi;

I know I'm looking for a rare aircraft but I much prefer the pa30/39 to the alternatives.

It seems like any time one of these pop up, it ends up in Europe. Mine is deiced, but no turbo. It is probably more realistic, but definitely not cheap, to find the turbo and put the deice system on it. My airplane was probably one of the last to get pneumatic deicing installed. The former owner did it as he lived in upstate NY. The basis was the Miller STC, with a field approval to allow current production parts to be substituted. Muncie Aviation has recently been working on installing that system as well, so when they are done, that airplane will be the most recent.

Kristen;

You are correct. I thought I had found one in Europe and thanks to your efforts we found the Wiggins pump deice info for it. However I was unable to get the maintenance records that we require in North America to get a C of A. If Muncie is doing one now with the miller STC I will contact them. I talked to ray jay and they estimate north of 45,000 to get turbo's installed on a pa 30.

John,

Definitely buy the turbos already installed. That will save a bunch. I know where to get a set of parts for the alky props, and I am working with another twin owner who is attempting to get a field approval for hot props. Mangon Aircraft and I could do a deice installation if Muncie isn't game or the west coast is more convenient. If you need any assistance or a pre-buy, etc, you can PM me or email me at kristin_winter@comcast.net or get me phone number off the Pathfinder list.

BTW, Twinkies handle ice pretty well. I have little doubt that with the addition of an ice light and a heated stall warning vane that a deiced Twinkie would pass FIKI certification. Not that anyone is going to spend half a millionn doing so, but I am just saying. I would much rather ice a Twinkie than an old Baron or 310. The only light twin that handles ice better, IMO, is the Aztec.

Kristin,
My having a Turbo'd Miller 30B, do you think boots could work with the Robertson Hi-Lift mod's?

If so, I'd be interested in a known ice installation. Hope you and John will keep this thread going.

Don,

Deice boots are not compatible with the Robertson STOL. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The cuffs on the leading edges, and probably the fence, etc, prevents the installation.

Steve,

The STC is for the PA-30. It is left up to the IA to determine whether the aircraft can be modified without conflicting with prior modifications. I don't think that there are too many IA's that would try that installation and I believe that the FAA would take a dim view of an IA who did. Do you have any idea what the boots would do to the airflows over the modified wing? Me either!
