CHT Probe Location

CHT Probe Location

Our mechanic replaced a spark plug gasket type sensor with a bayonet probe, and now the CHT reads much lower. I believe it's located on a different cylinder. I would think it should be on the hottest cylinder, to give the earliest warning of trouble. Any suggestions?

If we are talking a single, 540, I believe the consensus is #5 is the hottest as it is on the oil cooler side. That is where my single probe is located. Surprised the mechanic doesn't have a feel for this.

The spark plug gasket thermocouples always read hotter than the bayonet type.
