Source for replacement baffles (180)

Postby Quint Van Deman » Sat Jun 15, 2013 4:46 am

Hello all--

The baffles on my 180 are rapidly approaching the end of their useful life. Does anyone have any suggestions on where these can be found?

Thanks,

Quint

Hi Quint - are you talking about the metal or flexible baffles?

Metal I'd start with Comanche gear.com

Flexible, there are a number of options

Pat--

As long as I've owned 7406P there was a custom fiberglass piece in the front of the cowling that covered the alternator and such. Recently it started rubbing on the alternator pulley to the point where trimming was required and is in otherwise bad shape. I guess I'd have to ask, is that component supposed to be metal or "flexible"?

Thanks,

Quint

Quint,

I don't know of any single Comanche that had fiberglass cowlings as factory stock. That said, I would suggest you check the possibility you need new motor mounts and that sagging is what is now causing the rubbing. Alternately, the last time you put the cowling on perhaps it isn't exactly in the same position. I know I always put all cowling pieces on with loose screws, then latch the side upper/lower latches, and then tighten the screws as this seems to settle everything into the "best" alignment.

There is a company named Aircraft Engine Baffles in Alaska and they will make them for you. I have not seen there work, only the web site. Give them a call.
