PA-30 Exhaust

PA-30 Exhaust

Postby md11flyer » Mon Jun 10, 2013 12:40 am

Does any body know what the PA-30 exhaust pipes are made of? Are they 301 stainless or 601/625 inconel?
I have a small crack starting along a weld in a Y piece that I need to have welded up. I have found a shop that can weld this but they need to know
what the material it is before they can weld it. They have TIG equipment and do a chemical clean before and they purge the interior with argon gas
during the welding. Anyway they said they can do a grind test and find out what the metal is but it would save time (money) if they had the info.

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

Wish I could help. Ours were sent to an O/H shop in MN. They had a 'rigging tool' that got the stacks into the right shape for the twin. All fit well when returned.

Thanks Pat, I decided to order a new one from Webco. When I pulled the pipe off I noticed that a crack in the
slip joint had been previously welded and that is a no-go. Don't know who would weld a slip joint...maybe they thought they could selectively weld
just the outer piece.... Anyway for the cost of new its not worth overhauling the old one.
