#6 Cylinder Base Wrench

#6 Cylinder Base Wrench

Postby Alan Alsup » Mon Apr 15, 2013 3:26 pm

I am in the middle of a top overhaul on my 1959 PA-24-250 that has an O-540 A1A5. I bought the the 3/8" and 1/2" Lycoming cylinder base wrenches from Aircraft Tool Supply and was able to get all the cylinders off except the #6 cylinder. I am unable to get the top right 1/2" nut off do to the tool conflicting with the motor mount. Does anybody out there know where I can get a wrench that will clear the motor mount to take this nut off?

Thanks,

Alan

Alan I thought I'd left a message on the forum site yesterday but it disappeared from my computer. If you still have not found a solution to the problem you may have to go to a shop that has the correct wrench and beg barrow or steal same. When I checked my '60 250 (same engine) there was no problem getting the wrench to fit around the motor mount, assuming the rear baffle is removed. I bought my wrenches 40 years ago for my first Comanche and they're identical to our FBO's wrenches. You might call Aircraft Tool Supply to ensure they sent the correct wrench. Ray B
