alternate Air kit for 260

alternate Air kit for 260

Postby Mark in Perry » Mon Mar 11, 2013 2:44 am

helping a friend with an annual on an early model 260, looking for any information on the alternate air box/control - appears there was an AD and a piper kit to replace the pneumatic driven with a mechanical cable actuated door. any information - configuration, drawings, pictures, etc. would be appreciate.
thanks

since 30 people have read this post but no one has seen fit to reply I assume I was not clear enough in my request. the 260 is fuel injected, so has no carb heat. however there is an alternate air inlet that bypasses the air cleaner (I assume to handle icing situations). the control is pneumatic, and the AD is supposed to convert it to mechanical (calble I assume) via a kit from piper. thats about all I know, any help would be appreciated. surely there are some 260 owners out there that could look under the cowling and see what you have?

thanks

Mark,
In the Tips section I found Piper drawing No. 27186 for the kit, perhaps you can contact Piper or Webco, they have a document on http://www.webcoaircraft.com/sb/TC1A15.pdf, item 123 that relates to this.
Hope it helps.

My Comanche is carburated, but Webco rebuilt my carb heat box. I would guess they could rebuild your alternate airbox just the same.

My 260 has a cable activated alt air box. I'll check my log book to see when/who replaced it. I was never aware that it was once pneumatic.

Mark,
I have the Webco STCd Alternate Air modification which is cable actuated on my 260B. Call Webco and they can help you.

my 260c has a cable so i can manually open alternate air.Does anyone know if this should be opened when flying in visible moisture as Dick rochford master instructor suggests when flying the piper mirage?? I know it should open automatically if it gets iced up but is it proper action to open manually when flying in moisture in case it freezes up??
