Factory POH Supplements

Factory POH Supplements

Postby Charles Schefer » Tue Jan 29, 2013 2:54 am

I posted this under and old thread but because I did that I am not sure anyone noticed - hence no answers :) This is a re-post. Any comments / help appreciated...

I recently acquired a 1968 PA-30B. I have the original AFM (old 8.5x11" sheets stapled in the corner as Zach describes). Included with this I have Supplements 1-10 and Supplement 12. I don't know how many supplements there were in total (just 12 I hope) but it obviously seems I am missing supplement 11. I also have all the required supplements for avionics and equipment that have been added over the years. By 1-12 I am referring to the original supplements that came from the factory.

Any help or input on Supplement 11 (and for that matter any beyond 12 if they exist) would be appreciated.

By the time our 39 came out of the factory in 1970, the POH was in a binder with tabs and contained a lot more pages.

FAA-Approved POH is for sale. It was developed by Killough and ICS now has the rights to re-produce.
I set about trying to find the ordering info - used to be at Webco, so I'd suggest calling them first - did not see it on their website but that isn't unusual for them. Also looked at the two ICS/CFF website locations didn't see it there either.

At least these are some pointers. In terms of your specific Rev 11 request, perhaps another owner can help.

Funny you should mention equipment list. Ours was soooo outdated in its 22 pages, that I refreshed it with valid information last month. Kept the originals of course. Did find 1-2 errors in the original though wrt location of equipment. A couple of years ago we found computational errors in the W&B changes since the aircraft had last been weighed. It sure does pay to Trust but Verify.

I carry the original POH as provided by Piper with appropriate updates by me in the aircraft between seats 3/4. Read it as a refresher at annual time and BFRs/IPCs along with Alice Fuchs' book.

Also carry the CPPP quick reference emergency procedures booklet in the front seat container. It is better than anything else we have in terms of form factor and fast usable info.

The ICS/Killough tree-killer is at home for reference.

Don't know about 11. Do not have a good log of revisions. Will try to remember to look when I see the plane on Friday - but no guarantees.

Hi Charles,
I saw your questions and checked my AFM today. I have a 1966 PA30-B
Supplement 11 is the supplement for counter rotating engine.
I have a counter rotating engine so this may be the reason it is present in my AFM and not others.
If you need a copy I will be happy to grab the AFM next time I am at the hangar and scan it and send via email.

Charles - flew yesterday and did look at the POH/AFM for my 1970 39. It is vastly different than what you describe with Piper part #s for the roughly 3/4 inch document in loose-leaf binder and part #s for each supplement. Sounds like Chris is a better help than any documentation I might have.
