Horizontal Stab Balance Plate

Horizontal Stab Balance Plate

Postby David Pfeffer » Thu Jan 17, 2013 6:33 pm

Anyone know the approximate weight of one p/n: 23179-00 horizontal stabilizer balance weight? See attached pic. The weight is used, as required, to balance the horizontal stab on the PA-30. I'm not refering to the large balance arm weight, only the smaller balance plates for fine tweaking.

Thanks!!

Call Webco. I have bought those plates from them before.

David,

I think you can make your own. As I remember the plates are just steel with a hole drilled thru them for the bolt. Remove one of the old weights and weigh it. It has to be done anyway if you intend to balance the tail. Also, some might be thicker or thinner depending on the weight.

I hope this helps. FWIW.

Great, thanks guys. I made the poor assumption without looking at them closely that they were lead like every other flight control surface weight I've used in the past. I was going to melt down my own plates to save time over waiting for the West coast to East cost shipment from Webco. Fabricating from steel is a no-brainer. First need to see how much I need! I'll put the stab back on this weekend after the paint cures enough that I don't scratch the new finish.
