Horn AD Maintenance Seminars

The Mid States Tribe of ICS is going to host a series of one day, “hands on” seminars showing how you and/or your mechanic can satisfy AD 2012-17-06. With you watching and participating, a Comanche tail will be taken apart, the inspection performed, and the tail reassembled. A local ‘Comanche expert’ will be used if possible, otherwise, one will be brought in. Both ICS and non-ICS members are invited.

The cost is $25 per person. An additional $5 per person will cover lunch. Arrangements will be made with a local hotel for Friday and Saturday nights in case you wish to arrive early or leave late. The person who volunteers their Comanche will be charged $50 to cover the inspection and attendance.

Seminars are proposed for Newton, KS; Denver, CO; Rapid City, SD; Minneapolis, MN; Iowa City, IA; and St. Louis, MO. These locations are general areas and should not be construed as absolute. The first location is planned for Newton in the March time frame. A local volunteer coordinator is needed for each site.

We will also endeavor to have something for the non-pilot that might accompany you to do for the day.

The program administrator for the seminars is Pat Donovan. If you are interested in being a local coordinator or want your Comanche tail inspected as part of this program, contact him by posting here or email at ad.seminar@yahoo.com.

Pat,

This is a great idea. I am all in for the Rapid City location. I would even volunteer my airplane for the inspection! Let me know how I can help.

Count me in for the Newton location, and my Comanche, N7032P, would be pleased and honored to be the subject of the inspection.

Mike, why not at Spearfish (Clyde Ice, Black Hills, etc). It's closer to DWD for the fun, and SPF is probably more friendly. And, you can host. It's a win-win.

Good idea. I would be interested in the Minneapolis one. Is there a date (roughly) you have in mind?

Nothing on the east coat but I would be interested in the St. Louis area.

Everyone,

Thanks for expressing your interest and in some cases volunteering to help organize a session. I am still putting the pieces together and more news should be available shortly.

Regarding a session in Minneapolis, the time frame is dependent on weather. I suspect folks would be more interested in having it during the summer than the winter. Am I wrong?

Regarding Spearfish, I agree that sounds like a good location and would support a multi-day stay for people who are not from that area.

Regarding the no east coast location, since this is being proposed at this time by the Mid-States Tribe, we won't go there. However, I would be happy to support an Tribe that wants to do something similar.

We are also considering producing a video of the inspection that could be distributed to any one.

Regards,

Pat,

Not sure but videotaping Hans doing a demo of this MIGHT have been done at Clifton Aero a couple of years ago. I know it was discussed not not sure if it was done.

I'll gladly fly to Iowa City and donate my Comanche for this opportunity. Will parts be available so I'm not grounded if cracks found?

I would do the Mpls area or Spearfish, SD....fun trip. I'm in central MN at KLXL. Also my mechanic(s) from Central Planes Aviation at D39 (Sauk Centre, MN, just one hour north of Mpls off of I-94) could be convinced to be involved. Let me know.
