Paint Shops

Postby DAVEG24 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 7:41 pm

I am interested in getting my plane stripped and painted. I'm considering Saltaire in Ormond Beach, Fl. I'd appreciate any positive or negative comments on this shop, their techniques, and any other observations you may have. Thanks.

Dave,

You may already have read these but since you are now actively looking for a shop ...

Let me try to help with elements you might want to look for in a paint shop. Here's a blog that my Tribe Chief requested - http://www.comancheflyer.com/forum2/vie ... sted+paint This is a nearly daily account of the process.

For the short version here is the published article http://www.comancheflyer.com/NS/tech_ar ... unrise.pdf

Dave,
Try Flying Colors in Leesburg, FL. (352) 728-1810. By far the best price in all of Fl/GA. I spent a lot of time researching it. I've seen 3 planes he's done and have been impressed. The owner used to own a big shop and downsized to a mom/pop operation. He doesn't advertise. Just word of mouth and only works a few planes at a time. He recently quoted me ~$9500 for complete strip/paint of my PA-30 with 3 colors. He's a HUGE Twinkie fan and loves painting them. Anyhow, just somewhere else you may want to take a look at. :D
