Comanche AME in Upstate NY/PA/MI

Postby Darryl Brown » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:51 pm

Hello,

I'm based on Toronto, Ontario and was wondering if there are any AME's that can be recommended in the upstate NY York, Northern PA, or even Eastern Michigan region.

I'm considering purchasing a Twinco and would like to have a pre purchase inspection done buy someone who knows what to look for.

Thanks,
Darryl

In the states, I think what you are looking for is an IA, (A&P with Inspection Authorization). AME's are usually Doctors. Art Beyer is a very qualified IA, that lives in the Buffalo area. He may be willing to do it for you. His phone number is 716 510 3337. If he isn't available, you can call Boshart Aviation in Batavia, NY. They maintain several Twin and single Comanches and regularly do pre-buy inspections. Their phone number is 585 344 1749. Good luck.

I think it might make a difference whether the TC is registered and bought in the US or Canada. Some of the inspection requirements are different. OTOH choosing a US facility near the border would probably serve your purpose as they would understand the Transport Canada import rules. I can suggest a Comanche owner in the Toronto area who has been been through this.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I'm not sure, but I dont think IA's can do annual inspections on Canadian aircraft?

There is such a shortage of actual frames and mechanics that have experience on the Comanche that I'm considering getting work done with someone who has experience, but then have the "official" inspection up here to satisfy Transport Canada (if the U.S. IA is not authorized to conduct the annual).

Let us know about the airplane and location you are talking about. ICS has many Canadian members who have their Comanches looked after in Canada. It is Canadian or US registry? Is this a prebuy or something else? Here an IA would not necessarily do a prebuy ...in fact you don't even need an A&P since it is not an airworthiness issue. If we knew more we could help.

My pa-30 guy is quite good in upstate NY. He worked with Tim Talley who praised his work which is a huge compliment.
