Just for your information, the manual that resides on the 796 will not bring you to the right page when you input the page number found either in the index or table of contents. It is off by 14 pages, so if you want page 29, input 15 and you'll get there. Garmin now is aware of the problem. Maybe they'll fix it. In the meanwhile, if you need to look something up in the manual, get the page number and add 14.

A word of caution. The external GPS antenna has magnets installed. They're extremely easy to remove, but nowhere are you told that they are there. If you put that antenna on the glare shield, your compass is badly compromised. When I questioned Garmin as to why they put magnets in the antenna, the response was "some people mount the antenna on the outside of the plane". Honest to god, that's what he said. I asked him how many aircraft that he knew of had a steel fuselage. He couldn't think of any, and I told him I couldn't either. I reminded him that this is an aviation GPS and not suitable for use in a car. I suggested that they might want to re-think the magnets issue. Meanwhile, if you get a 796, be aware that the external antenna does have two powerful magnets on board.
